The parliamentarians from India and Pakistan say that the trust deficit between the two countries should be removed in order to facilitate the resumption of bilateral dialogue and promote a people's movement for peace and reconciliation. The recommendation was made on the first day of a Pakistan-India Parliamentarians' Dialogue organised in Islamabad by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency. The lawmakers said India and Pakistan should focus on bridging the trust deficit particularly in areas that divide the two countries. The informal dialogue will continue today to discuss ways to promote peace and prosperity in the region. Senator S M Zafar of Pakistan and former Indian External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha co-chaired the dialogue. The Indian parliamentarians participating in the meet include Mani Shankar Aiyar, Vijay Darda, Naznin Faruque, Shatrughan Sinha, Assaduddin Owaisi and Pradeep Majhi. Former Pakistani Foreign Ministers Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri and Sartaj Aziz participated in the meet as distinguished observers.India suspended the composite dialogue process in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which were blamed on Pakistan-based terror groups.
