MP: Vehicles carrying reserved EVMs, VVPATs mandatorily equipped with GPS

<span style="color: #222222;">In Madhya Pradesh, vehicles carrying reserved EVMs and VVPATs during the four-phased Lok Sabha polls will be mandatorily equipped with GPS to track their movement.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The decision came in the backdrop of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines being found in hotels, roads and even at the residence of an MLA during the state assembly elections held in late last year.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">According to information, Chief Electoral Officer V L Kantarao has directed officials to use vehicles installed with GPS trackers and mobile-based tracking system for transportation of reserve EVMs and VVPATs.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Apart from that Instructions have been issued to all district electoral officers to carefully monitor end-to-end movement of all reserved EVMs. For this, an EVM control room shall be set up at the CEO's office and the DEO offices where movement of EVMs and VVPATs would be monitored through GPS monitors and other related I-T infrastructure and applications.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Lok Sabha elections in the state will begin on April 29 and continue till May 19 in last four phases. The counting of votes will be held on May 23. </span>
