MP train mishap: Driver, assistant suspended

Railways have suspended the driver of a goods train and his assistant for alleged negligence in connection with a rail mishap in Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh yesterday.Senior railway officials said in New Delhi that both of them were suspended because, prima facie, it appears that they overshot the signal.Railways is conducting an inquiry into the mishap, which took place at around 4.45 am when a goods train rammed into the stationary Indore-Gwalior Intercity Express. The preliminary report is expected within a fortnight.23 people were killed and 27 injured in the incident. Railways has already announced five lakh rupees as compensation to the kin of deceased, one lakh rupees to the seriously injured passengers and 50,000 rupees to passengers who sustained minor injuries.
