In Madhya Pradesh, peaceful polling is on in the ten parliamentary segments of Malwa-Nimad and Madhya regions. Over 35 per cent turnout was recorded in these segments till 01 pm.
Ratlam, Mandsour and Khargoun segments recorded more than 40 per cent turnout. Vidisha, Dewas, Dhar, Indore, Khandwa and Betul segments registered more than 30 per cent polling.
Voting is also taking place for the bye-election of Vidisha legislative assembly segment. Our correspondent reports that more than one crore 69 lakh voters will decide the political fate of in all 118 candidates including 35 independents in this phase. Over 19 thousand four hundred polling booths have been set up.
Among prominent candidates are leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj from Vidisha, former union minister Kantilal Bhuria from Ratlam and state Congress president Arun Yadav from Khandwa. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the polling.
157 companies of central para-military forces, Rapid Action Force and Special Armed Force and 40 thousand police and home guard jawans have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.
