In Madhya Pradesh, junior doctors of five government medical colleges have gone on indefinite strike. Junior doctors of Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior went on strike yesterday while those from Bhopal and Rewa also joined them today. Our Bhopal correspondent reports that the state government has imposed Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to deal with the strike.Junior doctors are demanding increase in their stipend; reducing their rural bond period from two years to one year and implementation of the Doctors Protection Act. They allege that the state government has given assurances on their demand since the past one year and is not taking any concrete steps. On the other hand, the state government has adopted a strict posture on the junior doctors’ strike. After imposition of ESMA, FIR has been lodged against five junior doctors in Indore .300 junior doctors of the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Indore, have reportedly handed over their resignations to the Dean. The strike has affected normal services in government hospitals affiliated with the medical colleges.
