The Madhya Pradesh government has said that strict action would be taken against the culprits who killed a young IPS officer Narendra Kumar in Morena district. Expressing grief over the murder of Banmore SDOP, Narendra Singh, the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that a free and fair probe will be conducted into the matter. Talking to media at Bhopal yesterday, Home Minister Umashankar Gupta said that the guilty would not be spared. He said that the police had been ordered to check illegal mining, and Narendra Kumar was following those orders. On the other hand, opposition Congress has alleged that mining mafia has protection of those who are a part of the state government. Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Ajay Singh said that without political protection, no one could have the courage to brutally kill a police officer in full public view. Mr. Singh demanded resignation of Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta and a CBI investigation into the incident.AIR Bhopal Correspondent reports that Home Minister Umashankar Gupta and DGP Nandan Dubey paid tributes to the slain IPS officer in Gwalior yesterday. He adds that the mining mafia killed IPS officer Narendra Kumar in Banmore area of Morena district yesterday. After getting a tip off about illegal mining in the area, SDOP Banmore Narendra Kumar had gone there and trying to stop a tractor-trolley loaded with stones. Driver of tractor-trolley crushed the young police officer by overturning the trolley over him. Mr. Narendra Kumar, seriously injured in the incident was referred to Gwalior where he succumbed to injuries. Police have arrested driver of the tractor Manoj and a case of murder has been registered against him. Mr. Narendra Kumar was IPS officer of 2009 batch. The issue of illegal mining has become major issue in Madhya Pradesh. The opposition congress has been repeatedly raising this issue both inside and outside the state assembly.
