Mining mafia had killed SDOP Narendra Kumar in Banmore area of Morena district on Thursday. AIR Bhopal Correspondent reports that ruling BJP and opposition Congress have engaged in verbal duel over the murder of young IPS officer, illegal mining and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that the state government has launched a campaign against illegal mining and this campaign will continue. On the other hand alleging failure of law and order in the state, opposition congress has demanded resignations of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and home minister Umashankar Gupta. Congress has also given a bandh call on Tuesday on this issue.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has demanded a judicial inquiry to probe illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh and mining contracts given by the state BJP government since 2004. He alleged that the BJP government has given mining contracts to outsiders who have relations with BJP leaders and not to local people.

The Congress today condemned the killing of IPS officer Narendra Kumar by mining mafia in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Party spokesperson Manish Tiwari said the incident was unfortunate.

Mr. Tiwari said the statements of the family members of the police officer indicate that he was aware of the danger or the kind of elements he was confronting with. He demanded that the Madhya Pradesh government should act against the perpetrators of the crime. He said the government should halt illegal mining in the state.

Referring to media reports of alleged burning of the houses of Dalits by some members of Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Tiwari said that it is reprehensible and such kind of political vendetta should have no place in democracy.
