Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a 212 crore rupees special relief package for Omkareshwar irrigation project’s submergence-affected people. Addressing a function in Bhopal last evening, he said that the benefit of this package will also be given to the families who have already relocated from the submergence area. He urged families affected by Omkareshwar project submergence to avail benefit of the special package within prescribed time-limit and vacate the reservoir area in the larger interests of the state. Irrigation potential of 1 lakh 47 thousand hectare will be created by Omkareshwar project in Khargone, Dhar and Khandwa districts. It is noteworthy that compensation under various provisions of rehabilitation policy had already been provided to the affected families of submergence area of Omkareshwar project. Most of the families have shifted from there. About 2500 families did not vacate the reservoir area demanding additional financial benefits.
