In Madhya Pradesh, the state government has taken action against more than two thousand officials, employees and elected representatives with a view to check irregularities in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). These include two district collectors, six chief executive officer’s (CEO) of district panchayats and 109 CEO’s of Janpad Panchayats. Action has also been taken against 282 engineers, 723 sarpanchs and 908 gram panchayat secretaries. According to an official release, those penalised persons were found prima facie guilty of irregularities in internal inquiries. Criminal cases have been filed and money has been recovered in some cases. AIR correspondent reports, the State Rural Development minister Mr. Gopal Bhargava said, his department took stern action on receipt of complaints about irregularities in the implementation of MNREGA.
