MP forest land rights claims of over one lakh 76 thousand 408 tribals accepted under Forest Rights

In Madhya Pradesh, forest land rights claims of more than one lakh 76 thousand 408 tribals have been accepted under the Forest Rights Act so far. AIR correspondent reports that forest land rights documents have been distributed to about one lakh 69 thousand claimants.The work of disposing of claims over forest land is being carried out under a special campaign in about 25 thousand villages of the state. Directives have been issued to the officers of the Tribal Welfare, Revenue and Forest departments to dispose of community claims on forest land on priority. Besides members of scheduled tribes, forest land pattas are also being given to other traditional forest dwellers under the Forest Rights Act on the land under their possession. Committees have been constituted at the Gram Panchayat, development block and district levels for disposal of claims. As per the Act, land pattas are to be given to tribal forest dwellers for the land under their possession upto 13th December 2005. Similarly, other forest dwellers must have possession of land for 75 years.
