Move bail pleas for detenus: Odisha to Maoists as hostage release deadline ends

The Odisha government has asked the two Maoist groups to move bail pleas for the quick release of the detenus sought by them in exchange of the BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka and Italian Paolo Bosusco. State Home Secretary UN Behera told media persons last night that since the Maoists' release from jail involves the judicial process of grant of bail by the concerned courts, the detainees would have to file their bail applications. Air correpondent reports that The deadline given by Maoists to free ruling BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka and Italian national aolo Boususco comes to an end today. Uncertainty looms large over the release of two hostages as the demands of their Maoist abductors are still being examined by the Odisha Government. Things appeared to have complicated for the state government with the Odisha police protesting release of top Maoist leaders in lieu of the hostages. The three bureaucrats representing the state government, UN Behera, Pradip Jena and Santosh Sarangi and two- Maoist chosen interlocutors, BD Sharma and Dandapani Mohanty, reiterated their appeal to the Maoist abductors to set the hostages free unharmed. They have said the release of the 23 Maoists and Maoist-backed Chasi Mujliya Adivasi Sangh activits as promised by the state government would take time due to legal formalities. The Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoists), holding the MLA as hostage, have been demanding release of 30 prisoners to release the legislator. The state government has also asked the Maoist chosen mediators to send a copy of joint agreement signed between the government representatives and Maoist-nominated interlocutors to Secretary of Odisha Organising Committee of CPI (Maoists) Sabyasachi Panda, who is holding the Italian national, to clear the confusion created over fulfilment of his demands. Panda has asked the Odisha Governemnt tomeet 13 of his demands to free the Italian national.
