Motormen observe hunger strike in Mumbai

It was tough time commuting for Mumbaikars as motormen of both Central and Western railway observed hunger strike today to press for their demands of rise in pay scales and allowances.

Although the state government and BEST had arranged for extra transport facilities, with the lifeline of Mumbai facing problems the commuters too were left hanging in the balance.

Chaotic scenes were witnesses at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Dadar and Churchgate railway station.

Traffic on roads have been affected adversely In order to lower the burden, some private companies were forced to shut down by 3 pm, while banks and public sector offices were asked by the government to close down by 4 pm.

As many as 40 motormen were reported to have been hospitalized due to dehydration. As of yet no compromise solution has been arrived at.

The western railway has arranged special trains from Mumbai Central and Dadar to virar whereas Central Railway has allowed passengers to commute via long distance trains which will halt at Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund and Thane.
