Mother Teresa is now St. Teresa of Calcutta

Mother Teresa is now Saint Teresa of Calcutta following canonization by Pope Francis in Vatican City.<br/><br/>Thousands of Mother Teresa's followers had gather at St. Peter's Square to witness the canonization of the Nobel Peace laureate , who dedicated her life to helping the poor.<br/><br/>The canonization comes on the eve of her 19th death anniversary.<br/><br/>She will now be known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.<br/><br/>The canonization ceremony began at 2 pm and was followed by an Eucharistic celebration.<br/><br/>A 12-member central delegation led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and two state government-level delegations from Delhi and West Bengal, led by Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee represented India at the ceremony.<br/><br/>Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997.<br/><br/>On October 19, 2003, Pope John Paul II beatified Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She was conferred with the country's highest award Bharat Ratna.<br/><br/>Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha on Sunday released a special postage stamp to mark Mother Teresa's canonisation as a saint at The Vatican.<br/><br/>The postage stamp was released at Divine Child High School in Andheri in Mumbai to commemorate the event being celebrated globally.<br/><br/>While releasing the stamp, Mr. Sinha said that her canonisation is a matter of pride for the nation. He said, Mother Teresa devoted her whole life serving the poor and destitute people in India. <br/><br/>In Kolkata, nuns shed tears of joy and hugged each other, amid euphoric scenes at the Mother House, the global headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, as the order's founder Mother Teresa was declared a saint by the Vatican on Sunday.<br/><br/>Nuns of the Missionaries of Charity on Sunday cheered joyously and loudly, clapped freely and rang bells the moment Pope Francis at Vatican declared Mother Teresa a saint.<br/><br/>Decked up with larger-than-life posters of the Mother, the Mother House, headquarters of the congregation and house of the saint, was kept open throughout the day as visitors poured in to watch the ceremony live on big TV screens and offer flowers at her tomb.<br/><br/>Nuns decorated the Mother House with flowers, portraits of Teresa and lights.<br/>Since morning, the House was kept open for public as visitors came throughout the day to pay their respects to the Mother.<br/><br/>"We remain focused on the service of the poor and staying away from worldly pleasures of life is an integral part of the congregation. But this is an exceptional case. We all are very overjoyed. She is our mother and so we have to watch this," they said.
