Moscow ready for joint steps with Pyongyang to settle Korean Peninsula impasse

Russia has said, it is ready for joint efforts with Pyongyang to settle the situation on the Korean Peninsula by political and diplomatic means. <br/><br/>This was stated by the Russian foreign ministry yesterday after consultations in Moscow between Russian and North Korean diplomats. <br/><br/>In its statement the Ministry said, Russia has reiterated its readiness for joint efforts in the interests of settling existing problems of the sub-region by peaceful political and diplomatic means, including in the context of promoting the Russian-Chinese roadmap for the Korean settlement. <br/><br/>The Russian-Chinese roadmap of the Korean Peninsula settlement provides for a double moratorium on North Korea's nuclear and missile activities and on the US' and its allies' military exercises. <br/><br/>The ministry said, Choe Son Hui, chief of the North American department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry, met with Oleg Burmistrov, a Russian diplomat dealing with the issue and also with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.
