MoS Home calls upon police personnel to reform itself & shed negative image

Union Minister of State for Home Mr Mullappally Ramachandran has called upon the police to take up the initiative to reform itself and shed its negative image.Addressing the valedictory of the Global Community Policing Conclave in Kochi this evening, Mr Ramachandran said police modernisation is an effective tool to bring in reforms within the police. He said the force should build up the capacity to work in the changing world by equipping itself with modern tools of technology. The Minister observed that only a reformed police will be able to effectively work in tandem with people that will ultimately help in crime prevention.He noted that a large gap still exists between the citizens and the police due to disgusting third degree methods being followed by some section of the police in investigation of crimes, which is not acceptable to any civil society.He said Community policing will emerge as a major component of the police operations in the days ahead.
