Mos for Home Affairs defends AFSPA in JK, criticises Chidambaram remarks

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Saturday criticized Congress leader P. Chidambaram for his comment on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). During a programme, Mr Chidambaram had said that AFSPA is an obnoxious law and it has no place in a modern and civilized country.

Mr Rjiju has termed the comment as opportunistic and unfortunate.

He said, when Mr Chidambaram was the Home Minister of India, he knows under what condition and situation, the law has been enforced in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mr Rijiju said, as there is an election in the state, commenting on the law is incorrect.

Mr Rijiju added that country's security and human rights, both are equally important.
