MoS Dr. L Murugan says Govt believes in freedom of speech of media channels

<span style="color: #222222;">Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan has stressed that the media, which is considered the fourth pillar of democracy, must relay accurate factual news to people. Speaking at the launch of a new Kannada news channel in Bengaluru, the minister said that the Government that believes in the freedom of speech of media channels has introduced a three-tier mechanism to self-regulate their contents. <br />''<br />''He, however, said that the Government has initiated action against YouTube, Twitter and Facebook handles that were spreading false news against our national interests and defence forces. He informed that 200 such handles have been blocked. Speaking about Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programmes in Doordarshan, the minister said that the public broadcaster has relayed 75 episodes on unsung heroes of freedom struggle and three among them were on freedom fighters from Karnataka. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Prahlad Joshi said that the media must act as a mirror to society. On the introduction of 5G technology within the country, Dr. Murugan informed that after the 5G spectrum auction, the Government has ensured that cost per Gigabyte remains at 15 rupees, as against 800 rupees in USA and 500 rupees in UK. He also said that indigenous technology is adopted by India to introduce the 5G telecom services.</span><br />
