Mortal remains of Union Minister Deshmukh consigned to flames

Senior Congress leader and Union Minister Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh who passed away in Chennai yesterday was given last adieu at his paternal village Babhalgaon in Latur district of Maharashtra today.

His mortal remains were consigned to flames in present of lakhs of people thronging there from every corner of the state.

AIR correspondent reports, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chair person Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers including Sharad Pawar, Sushilkumar Shinde, Prafulla Patel, Governor of Maharashtra K. Shankarnarayanan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, Dy. CM Mr. Ajit Pawar and their cabinet Colleagues, leaders of various parties including BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Member Parliament Gopinathrao Munde, personalities from the celluloid word and dignitaries from various fields were among those who paid homage to the departed leader In view of the demise of Mr. Deshmukh no cultural programmes and the programmes of gaiety were arranged anywhere during the celebration of the Independence day throughout the state.

Three day mourning is being observed in the state from yesterday.
