Mortal remains of Siachen martyrs reaches Delhi

The mortal remains of nine bravehearts, who were buried alive by an avalanche in Siachen on 3rd of this month reached New Delhi today. The bodies were airlifted to the National Capital from Leh after wreath laying. <br/><br/>The Indian Army on saturday successfully managed to move the mortal remains from Siachen to the base camp in Leh. With the weather continuing to be extremely adverse, the bodies were moved to the Military Hospital in Hunder for embalming and custody. In Delhi, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh, Air Force Chief Air Marshal Arup Raha, Vice Chief of Navy Vice Admiral P Murugesan, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others paid their last respects at Palam Airport. <br/><br/>The bodies of the nine martyrs are being transported to their home towns. <br/>The martyrs are Subedar Nagesha TT, Havildar Elumalai M, Lance Havildar S Kumar , Lance Naik Sudheesh, Sepoy Mahesha PN, Sepoy Ganesan , Sepoy Rama Moorthy, Sepoy Mustaq Ahmed and Sepoy Suryawanshi S V .<br/><br/>The lone survivor of the Siachen Glacier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad passed away on Thursday after almost a week-long battle.

Mortal remains of Siachen martyrs reaches Delhi

The bodies of nine soldiers who were buried alive after their post was hit by avalanche at Siachen Glacier early this month have reached national capital Delhi after being airlifted from Leh in Jammu & Kashmir today. <br/>Public Relations Officer of Udhampur-based Northern Army Command, Col S D Goswami told AIR that Leh Corps Commander at a solemn function paid tributes to the soldiers early morning today. Later, the mortal remains will be transported around 1400 hrs to native places of the soldiers in Bangalore, Chennai, Trivandrum, Madurai, Pune and Hyderabad. while the <br/>In the early hours on 3rd of this month a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and nine other soldiers of 10 Madras Regiment were buried under the avalanche at an altitude of 19600-feet at Siachen Glacier. While Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad was miraculously retrieved alive after remaining trapped under 25 feet (8 metres) of snow for six days, the bodies of nine others were recovered on February 9. Lance Naik Koppad later died on February 11 after remaining in coma for three days in Army Hospital in Delhi.
