The mortal remains of senior Congress leader K Karunakaran were consigned to flames at Poonkunnam in Thrissur district in Kerala this evening, with full state honours. Karunakaran's son, K Muralidharan, lit the funeral pyre, as Congress workers and people from different walks of life bid a tearful adieu to the veteran leader. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh paid homage at the Municipal Town Hall at Thrissur. Dr Singh placed a wreath on the body and spent a few moments with Karunakaran's son K Muralidharan and daughter K Padmaja. Dr Singh later left for Delhi via Kochi. Besides Dr Singh, Kerala Governor R S Gavai, Union Ministers A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prof K V Thomas, AICC General Secretary Mohsina Kidwai, Kerala Assembly Speaker K Radhakrishnan and several state ministers were among those who paid their last respects.
