Mortal remains of Sathya Sai Baba to be laid to rest with state honours at Puttaparthi this morning

The last rites of Satya Sai Baba will be performed today at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh. He will be laid to rest with state honours this morning. The funeral will begin at 9:00 am. Dignitaries including BJP leader L K Advani, Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, religious leaders and close family members will be present during the funeral. Besides, representatives of all religious groups will be present at Prashanthi Nilayam, where Sai Baba’s body will be lowered into a grave. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers and many other dignitaries paid homage to the departed soul on Tuesday in Puttaparthi. Disciples thronged Kulwant Hall in lakhs on Tuesday till 11.00 pm. Thereafter the gates of Prashanti Nilayam were closed and Kulwant Hall site was handed over to the family members of Sai baba for funeral ceremony. Darshan will commence once again after 12.00 noon today. Sai baba, who is known for love of humanity and philanthropic work, died on Sunday after prolonged illness.
