The mortal remains of senior Congress leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Arjun Singh were consigned to flames with full state honour in his home town Churhat in Madhya Pradesh this afternoon. State governor Rameshwar Thakur, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, Union ministers Pranab Mukherji, Kamalnath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, and senior leaders of different political parties attended the funeral ceremony. Amidst emotionally charged atmosphere, the last journey of Arjun Singh began from his ancestral home in Sada Shivrajpur. His body wrapped in tricolor was kept in an open truck. His supporters, who were gathered in a large number, were chanting slogans like long live Dau Saheb. Arjun Singh’s funeral took place near Rao Sagar pond. Police personnel saluted the departed leader by firing in the air.His elder son Abhimanyu Singh lit the pyre. Arjun Singh is no more in this world but he will always be remembered for his works done for weaker sections.
