Morning temperature dips to sub-zero levels in Udhagamandalam (Ooty)

Higher levels of cold, accompanied by mists and unusual increase in day time temperatures is being experienced in many parts of South and Western Tamil Nadu. Night time and early morning temperature has dipped to sub-zero levels in Udhagamandalam (Ooty), also known as the Queen of the Western Ghats. This has also lead to changes in patterns of vegetable production in the region. The world famous Botanical garden registered temperatures between one and two degree Celsius during the past two days. Parts of Nilgiris districts like Pykkara have registered temperatures between 2 degree and -8 degree Celsius.<br />''           <br />''In the meantime, the difference between day and night temperatures has resulted in forest fires in areas surrounding Kodaikanal, another tourist spot in the Western Ghats. One such fire which broke out at City View, near Kodaikanal, is in the process of being controlled by police and fire force.<br />''           <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The meteorological department in Chennai has warned that ground frost conditions may continue in the Western Ghats during the next two days. Interior Tamil Nadu may experience mild fog or mist with subdued temperatures.</span><br />
