The Minister of State for Railways, Mr. E. Ahamed today said that necessary Amendments in Railway Property Act to Further Empower Railway Protection Force, RPF for dealing with passenger related offences is under Active Consideration. He stated this while addressing a gathering at the Railways Investiture Ceremony of RPF in New Delhi on Thursday. He said that more than 5000 vacant RPF posts will be filled up soon for which instructions have been issued. Mr. Ahamed said that protection of lady passengers is an important area and approval has been granted for raising 12 companies of ‘Mahila Vahini. He said that the implementation of Integrated Security System at 202 vulnerable stations of Indian Railway will go a long way in strengthening railway security. The Minister said that an All India Security Helpline will be set up soon to help train passengers seek security assistance during train journeys across the country. He said that networking of security control rooms and important RPF posts has also been sanctioned at an estimated cost of 4.41 rupees crore for speedy collection and dissemination of crime related information. On this occasion Mr. Ahamed also presented 38 prestigious awards to the RPF recipients which include President’s Police Medal for gallantry, President’s Police Medal for distinguished service and Police Medal for meritorious service for the year 2009-10.
