More than 20 people killed in B’desh garment factory fire

In Bangladesh more than twenty people are reported to have been killed in a major fire which broke out at a multi storey garment factory at Ashulia in Savar on the outskirts of capital Dhaka. The fire which broke out in the afternoon engulfed the ninth and tenth floor of the eleven storey building leading to many people being trapped. Though there has been no official confirmation of the number of people killed in the fire, according to reports based on eye witness accounts and information from hospital authorities twenty two people have died due to the devastating fire and more than hundred injured. Director of Operations of the Bangladesh Fire Service Department Mr Mohammed ShahJalal told AIR Correspondent in Dhaka that the fire has been brought under control to large extent with the help of more than sixteen fire tending units and efforts are on to completely douse the fire. Fire Service personnel along with police and army personnel are on the spot to aid in the rescue and relief operations.
