More rains in next 24 hrs in TN: Met Office

The Met Department has said that the trough of low pressure at the Southwest Bay of Bengal has moved westwards and lies between Srilanka and Tamilnadu. The predicition says that there will be more rain for the next 24 hours. The highest amount of 12 cms rainfall was recorded at Marakkanam and Kalpakkam recorded 11 cms rainfalll since yesterday. Widespread rainfall in catchment areas has cheered the farmers in delta areas of the state since it is good for the kuruvai cultivation. However 14 people have lost their lives in rain related accidents in the past two days. Local holiday has been declared in certain areas where there is heavy rainfall.Chennaiites who have been experiencing heavy rainfall since yesterday saw a delightful break as the rains slowed down. Fishermen did not venture into the sea as there was prediction for the next 24 hours in coastal areas. As the intensity of the rain has come down, the civic and health authorities are gearing up to encounter the monsoon season with precision.
