More commitment needed to implement social protection plans: Singh

Government has called for optimum usage of scarce and limited resources for complete eradication of hunger and poverty in the country especially in rural areas. In his message on the World Food Day, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh urged for more vigour and commitment from all stake holders to ensure implementation and effectiveness of social protection measures and scientific farming. Mr Singh said, Indian Agriculture has progressed in the country and it has become food surplus from a food deficit country. <br/><br/>He said, this has happened because of various initiatives launched by the Central Government to ensure enhanced productivity by resorting to scientific farming. The Government has recently launched various initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Sinchayee Yojana to bring water to every field, setting up of National Agriculture Market on e-platform, Gurukul Mission for the promotion of native varieties of livestock and soil health card for each farmer. <br/><br/>The Word Food Day is observed every year 16th of October to mark the founding of FOOD and Agriculture (FAO) organization of the United Nations. This Day is observed to draw attention towards the plight of the hungry and malnourished people all over the resultant comprehensive action to tackle and mitigate the menace of malnutrition a world over. The theme selected for this year's World Food Day is social protection and breaking the cycle of rural poverty.
