Moral responsibility of every Bangladeshi to ensure security of religious minorities: Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on her countrymen to put in all efforts to maintain communal harmony and ensure safety and security of the religious minorities.

Addressing a conference in Rajshahi Division through video conferencing from her official residence Gano Baban in Dhaka this evening, Hasina said it is the moral responsibility of every Bangladeshi to ensure the security of the religious minorities.

She also said religious harmony has to be maintained at al costs. The Prime Minister's message was projected at 2,981 villages and upazillas across eight districts of Rajshahi Division in southwestern Bangladesh.

The conference was attended by people's representatives, professional leaders and officials of Rajshahi Division. The premier's call for maintaining communal harmony comes at a time when minority Hindus are reeling under a spate of recent attacks in Nasirnagar district of Brahmanbaria district in east-central Bangladesh.

Several temples and over 100 Hindu homes were vandalised during attacks on Oct 30 and Nov 4th following posting of an anti-Muslim photo allegedly by a Hindu man. The National Human Rights Commission probe has, however, revealed that the attack was masterminded with the motive of grabbing the land of the minorities. 78 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
