Montek stresses on need to strengthen statistic data system

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia stressed on the need to strengthen statistic data system in the country. He however cautioned to be wary of misrepresenting statistics. He was speaking at the National Statistics Day function in New Delhi on Wednesday. He added that statistics regarding programme impact evaluation, Gender balancing, GDP fixation, poverty levels are important to conceive future actions. He said that statistics practices prevailing in emerging markets such as Brazil, Indonesia and China need to be studied to evolve at effective system of data collection. Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation Dr. M S Gill also emphasised on improving the service conditions and systems in the Statistical Institutes in the country. Dr. Sharat and Dr. Rajendra Prasad were conferred Prof.C R Rao National Award in Statistics for their outstanding contribution in this field.
