Montek: Quick resolution necessary on price pooling for domestic, imported fuel for power plants

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said a quick resolution is necessary on the issue of price pooling for domestic and imported fuel for power plants. He said power plants are facing shortages of coal and gas supply. Speaking at the India Energy Forum in New Delhi today, Ahluwalia said there is a need to put in place serious investment plan for the power sector.

The Deputy Chairman said the government has approved restructuring of 1.9 lakh crore rupee debt of State Electricity Boards in order to bailout the near-bankrupt power distribution companies.

He also said the Electricity Regulation Act is not properly implemented and large consumers of power should be encouraged to enter into purchase agreements.
