The controversy over the identification of Below Poverty Line families has been set at rest with the Planning commission and the Rural Development Ministry reaching a consensus. Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh met Planning Commission Deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia today.
Both of them discussed the Plan Panel's affidavit, which stated that persons consuming items worth more than 32 rupees per day in urban areas and 26 rupees in rural areas are not poor. The affidavit was filed by the Plan panel with the Supreme Court. Mr Ramesh described the meeting was constructive.
Yesterday, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had met the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the issue.
