Planning Commission deputy chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia hoped that the economic measures which are being taken by the government will show its result from October on wards. Talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday he said a realistic target for growth in the 12th Plan would be 8 to 8.5 per cent. He said that the new target has not yet been decided for the 12 five year plan, but the original 9 per cent target is no longer feasible. He also said that government is streamlining the Centrally sponsored programmes. He added that the Planning Commission is not rigid on its guidelines for different Centrally sponsored projects which are implemented by State governments, but money should be spent for the purpose it intended.
