Monsoon session of parliament ends today

The Monsoon session of Parliament came to an end today with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourning sine die . In their concluding remarks Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Mrs. Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairman Haid Ansari expressed concern over disruptions in the House . Describing the trend as alarming, Mrs Meira Kumar said that this is not checked, it will lead to unforeseen consequences. She said that forty five hours of house were lost because interruptions and forced adjournements. While regretting that no business could be transacted on five days, Hamid Ansari proposed that proceedings should start with the Zero Hour and question hour could be taken up later in the day. Question hour could not be taken up for eleven days in Lok Sabha and 8 days in Rajya Sabha . Our correspondent says that despite disruptions in both houses of parliament 20 bills were passed in this session besides discussions on a number of imporrtant issues in both the houses.
