The monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly began today amidst opposition’s demand for a debate on the controversial James Liane book on Shivaji Maharaj following Supreme Court decision to withdraw its ban. <br/><br/>The opposition also cornered the Maharashtra government over the border row with Karnataka. PWP leader Jayant Patil moved an adjournment notice on the border row and demanded immediate discussion. After a couple of adjournments, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan finally agreed to have a debate on both the issues in the House. <br/><br/>The Maharashtra Assembly today also revoked the suspension of four Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Patil moved the resolution of revoking the suspension of Shirish Shinde, Ram Kadam, Ramesh Wanjule and Vasantrao Gite after they apologised for their misconduct during the oath taking ceremony on November 9 last year. The resolution was passed by the voice vote.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, ten new members took the oath of office today. Three members each from Congress and NCP, two were BJP, one from Shiv Sena and an independent had been elected to the House on May 15 this year. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan today also appointed Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar as Minister of Water Resources (Krishna Valley Irrigation Corporation).<br/><br/>The House today also passed the condolence motion for former Vice President Baironsinh Shekhawat, Rajasthan Governor and former member of the House Prabha Rau, former Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly, Madhukarrao Chaudhary, and former members namely, Narendra Tidke, Keshavrao Rane, Baburao Kotwal and Jaywantrao Kharat.
