The Met department today said that the monsoon has been normal in most parts of the country except the Northeast region. Briefing the media on the mid term monsoon review, Director General of Indian Met Department, Mr. Ajit Tyagi said that 76 percent area of the country has received good rainfall. However the northeast region including Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and east Uttar Pradesh has received 24 percent below normal rainfall. Mr. Tyagi attributed lack of depression formation in the Bay of Bengal for decline in rainfall activity in this region. He informed there is a deficit of only 5 percent till 28th of July as against 16 percent at the end of last month. He added that deficit will be made up in the second half as the monsoon activity will be more vigorous. He said that in some areas the withdrawal of monsoon activity may extend beyond the normal date of 15th September.
