South west Monsoon has gained momentum in the southern states of the country. Heavy rain lashed almost all parts of Kerala during the last 24 hours. The MeT Office has said, heavy to very heavy rain will continue in the state till Monday. The state government has activated District Emergency Operation Centres to monitor monsoon-related calamities.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that heavy rain in catchment rains of dams in Kannya Kumari has led to rising of water levels in Perunchanni, Pechiparai, Sithar dams. <br/><br/>Valliyar, Kodayar, Kuzhithurai rivers are flooding. People living in low lying areas are moving away to safer places. Incessant rain in the past four days has hit normal life in Thuckalay, Nagercoil, Thovalai and Marthandam in Kumari district. <br/><br/>Heavy rain has badly affected brick kiln industry and rubber tapping in the district including Aralvazhmozhi Sembakaramanputhur and Kulasekaram. Rain water has seeped into salt pans in Manakudi and Samythope. <br/><br/>The sea is rough off the kannyakumari coast and fishermen are not venturing out into the sea. Ferry service to Vivekananda Rock and Tiruvalluvar statue has been affected often because of turbulent waves in Kumari Sea.<br/><br/>In Tamil Nadu as well, heavy rain for the past five days has thrown normal life out of gear in many districts, especially Kannya Kumari. The district administration is closely monitoring the alarmingly rising level in rivers.<br/><br/>Goa also has been receiving heavy pre-monsoon showers for the past few days. According to the MeT Office, the south-west monsoon is likely to reach Goa today.<br/><br/>Delhiites today woke up to a pleasant morning with the minimum temperature settling at around 25 degrees Celsius. Light showers, which started in the early morning, led to a drop in mercury. <br/><br/>The pre-monsoon showers have brought some respite to the people in Jammu and its surrounding areas from the scorching heat.
