The southwest monsoon has been active over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during past 24 hours. Heavy rainfall today occured at Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall tomorrow at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya. The country as a whole has received three per cent deficient rainfall. However, the North West India, the major producer of food grains, have received 26 per cent surplus rainfall so far during the current monsoon season.
