Monsoon active in UP; Ganga, Yamuna rising at many places

Monsoon is active in Uttar Pradesh and light to moderate rain was recorded in almost all parts of state in the last twenty four hours. The Ganga and Yamuna is rising at many places, several low lying areas of Allahabad and Varanasi are flooded with river water. Though Ghaghara river is receding in Gonda ,Barabanki and Ayodhya, it is still flowing above the danger mark. The Ganges is also flowing above the danger mark in Ballia district. AIR correspondent reports, Dozens of villages of Gonda ,Basti and Barabanki are still flood affected and many villagers are in staying in makeshift shelters. Relief works are on in the flood affected areas. The state met department director J.P.Gupta told AIR that monsoon activity will continue in next four days and good amount of rain is expected across the state.
