In Nepal, the Parliamentary Monitoring Panel has decided to seek a report from the Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and the government on the progress of the five point deal reached between the political parties. The seventeen member Parliamentary Committee headed by the Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang decided this at its first meeting held in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The monitoring panel has also decided to obtain decisions made by the Prime Minister-led Special Committee for resolving the problems of the peace process. The committee has also asked the Ministry of Defence to come up with a report on the efforts of the government to transform Nepal Army as an inclusive institution. The 17-member monitoring team is mandated to make an assessment of progress made by the government towards completing the peace process. It has also to ensure proportional representation of Madhesi people and other minority groups in the Nepal Army and to evaluate the efforts made for forming a national unity government.
