Monitor violation of model code of conduct strictly: Assam State election authority

In Assam, the State election authority has instructed the law-enforcing agencies to strictly monitor the violation of model code of conduct in view of the two-phased Assembly polls being held in the State on 4th and 11th of the next month. The district authorities have been asked to deface all the roadside hoardings, slogan writings and removal of pictures of the political figures put up by different parties to woo the voters with immediate effect. The Chief Electoral Officer of the State told newsmen in Guwahati that a six layer process has been demarcated to strictly monitor the poll expenses of the candidates contesting the ensuing polls. He said this time a candidate has to declare assets of his own, dependants and their spouses in new formats and those will be examined by the Income Tax Department in due course of time. He said this time opening of a separate bank account has been made mandatory by the candidates from where they will drawcash for spending in poll-related activities. A call centre with toll-free number 1965 is being set up in the State election office to enable the public and candidates to lodge any complaint on poll-related matter. Mr. Narzary said police has been asked to seize illegal arms, including those of the insurgents who had come over ground. The police have also been asked to execute the non-bailable warrants against over eleven thousand two hundred absconding criminals in the State.
