Indian women pugilists Monica Saun and Pooja Rani have advanced to the semifinals of the China Open Boxing tournament at the Guiyang Sports Gymnasium in Guiyang, China. In this AIBA 3 Star Tournament, which saw a total of 140 boxers representing 20 countries, Monica registered an emphatic 29-7 victory over Hlaing Kyu Kyu of Myanmar in the 60 kilogram category yesterday. On the other hand, Pooja got a bye in the quarterfinals of the 75 kilogram category. Monica Saun will now meet the Asian Games Gold Medalist Dong Cheng of China, while Pooja Rani will face another local boxer Ning Yuyu in the semifinals. Another Indian Women Pugilist, Sonia Lather was however not so lucky as she lost her quarterfinal bout in the 51 kilogram category to She Kebekova Jaina of Kazakhstan 11-16 after a gallant fight, especially in the third and fourth round.
