Narendra Modi will put in his papers as Chief Minister of Gujarat today after heading the state for over 12 years. Modi, who was appointed the Prime Minister yesterday, will also resign as member of the Gujarat legislative Assembly today. Our correspondent reports that Narendra Modi will address the special session of Gujarat assembly today, which is convened to give him a farewell. Our correspondent adds that the Prime Minister designate and Gujarat Chief Minister Modi will deliver his farewell speech to the special session of the state assembly today. Special arrangements have been made to make this session memorable. Narendra Modi- who created a record as the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat will tender his resignation from the Chief Minister’s post after the special session. Meanwhile, state BJP MLAs will meet this evening to elect their new leader. State Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel is all set to succeed Narendra Modi as the new Chief Minister of the state. The swearing in ceremony will be held on Thursday morning in Mahatma Mandir -Gandhingar, which is likely to be attended by Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi
Mr. Modi had called on the President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee yesterday to stake claim to form a new government. He will be sworn-in as the Prime Minister next Monday at 6 pm.
Last evening, Mr. Modi bid farewell to his assembly constituency Maninagar in Ahmedabad. Addressing a public meet, he praised his close aide Amit Shah for BJP's spectacular poll victory in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Modi and Amit Shah were earlier given a grand welcome at the Ahmedabad airport.
