Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi will resign as Chief Minister of Gujarat today. Our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that Mr.Modi will meet Governor Kamla Beniwal at 3 pm and tender his resignation.
BJP legislature party will meet in Gandhingar this evening to elect a new leader. State Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel is a front runner for the post. The swearing-in of the new Chief Minister will take place tomorrow at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhingar. Mr Modi will attend the ceremony.
Gujarat Assembly gave a grand welcome to Narendra Modi today. Cutting across party lines, all members of the house including opposition Congress and NCP welcomed the outgoing Chief Minister to the house. Our correspondent reports that red carpet was rolled out for Mr Modi. Addressing the house, Mr Modi thanked the speaker of the house Vajubhai Vala and the leader of the opposition Shankarsinh Waghela for this special Assembly session. Addressing the house, leader of the opposition party Shankarsinh Waghela said that Mr.Modi is facing a huge challenge to fullfil the high expectations of the people. He said, since Mr Modi will head a majority government at the Centre, he will have no excuse for failing to tackle any problem facing the country.
