BJP leader Narendra Modi today raked up his backward class status to mount an attack on Priyanka Gandhi. Priyanka had yesterday hit out at Modi saying he had insulted his father on Amethi's soil and accused the Gujarat chief minister of practicing 'low level politics.

Addressing a rally in Domariyaganj in Uttar Pradesh today, Narendra Modi without naming Priyanka Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, said that he belonged to a socially backward class and therefore they consider his politics to be of low level.

Terming Modi's statement as cheap politics BSP leader Mayawati castigated him for trying to play backward card on Priyanka Gandhi's remark. Asking Modi to reveal his caste. Mayawati said Modi is playing caste card for political gains Congress has slammed BJP leader Narendra Modi with deliberely misinterpreting facts over the remarks of Priyanka Gandhi. Party leader Kapil Sibal told reporters in New Delhi today that Priynka Gandhi had only said that Modi had insulted his father on Amethi's soil and accused him of practicing 'low level politics.

But, he said Modi deliberately misinterpreted the facts saying Priyanka Gandhi insulted him with the low-level politics remarks as he belonged to a backward caste. Sibal said Modi knows that he is misinterpreting and he does it purposefully.

That is Narendra Modi, he said. Sibal said Modi will give it a spin that has nothing to do with fact.
BJP has demanded an apology from Priyanka Gandhi for the remarks. Party spokesman Shanawaz Hussain said in New Delhi that Priyanka's staement shows frustration of Congress.
