Modi, Putin inaugurate concrete laying works for KKNPP units 3,4

In Tamil Nadu, the concrete laying works for third and fourth unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President by video conferencing from Goa. <br/><br/>In the function at Kudankulam Nuclear power plant site Nuclear Power Corporation Chairman SK Sharma, Russian company Atomstroy Export President Limareenko and site Director R S Sundar were also present. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the concrete laying works for third and fourth units of Kudankulam is a major milestone in the annals of nuclear power generation in India. Already India and Russia have jointly set up two nuclear power units in Kudankulam. The first unit is generating its full capacity of 1000 mega watt electricity.<br/><br/>Till now 12,300 million units of electricity has been generated from the first unit. The second unit is now generating 300 Mega watt units of electricity and will be raised to its full capacity of 1000 Mega watt step by step. The 1000 Mega watt Kudankulam nuclear power plant was built with Russian expertise following an agreement between the then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Soviet leader Mikahil Gorbachev in November 1988. <br/><br/>The first unit was synchronized with southern power grid on October 22 in 2013 and the second unit attained criticality on July 10 this year.
