The BJP today appointed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the chief of campaign committee for general elections in 2014. A formal announcement to this effect was made by Party Chief Rajnath Singh a short while ago in his address to the concluding session of Party's National Executive Meet at Panji, Goa.
Earlier, the party National Executive in its political resolution criticised the Congress party for its alleged misrule at the Centre. It also criticised the structure of leadership in the central government as defective and its authority as divided between the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson. The Party blamed UPA of deliberately weakening democratic institutions in the country. The resolution charged the UPA with what it called unprecedent price rise and hardship to the common man with a slide in GDP growth rate from 8.3 per cent in 2004 to about 5 per cent now.
Addressing the meet, Mr. Narendra Modi committed the party to fulfil the expectations of the people by emerging as a sole alternative to UPA. Mr. Modi alleged that the nation has never seen such brazenness before and the Congress party should aplogize to the people for its 4 years of misru le.
Later, briefing the reporters, party spokesperson Mr. Shahnawaz Hussain claimed that the BJP is the only ray of hope for the people of the country. He also said that BJP does not need a certificate of secularism from any party. Mr. Hussain dismissed the rifts in the party saying that BJP is proud to have L.K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee as its leaders.
