The meeting between Modi and the British diplomat was significant as it marked the resumption of Britain’s diplomatic ties with Gujarat, which were strained after the 2002 communal riots in the southern state. Two weeks ahead of today's meeting, the UK government had claimed that it was willing to normalize relations with Gujarat.
