Modi likely to appear before SIT today
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is likely to appear before the Special Investigation Team probing 2002 riot cases in the State today.

However, there is no confirmation from either side in this regard. Earlier, it was reported that the Chief Minister Narendra Modi would appear before the SIT on 27th March.

Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that Special Investigation Team- headed by Mr.R.K.Raghavan had issued summons to Chief Minister Modi to appear before it on 21st last, but next day, Mr. Narendra Modi had denied that he was called on 21st March in a written statement.

It is also likely that Chief Minister Narendra Modi will wait for 5th April for the out-come of hearing in the Supreme Court on the matter. Former BJP MLA Kalu Maliwad has filed a petition in the Supreme Court that SIT cannot summon the Chief Minster Modi.

Chief Minister Modi was summoned to appear before the probe panel following allegations by Zakia Jaffery, widow of former MP Ehsan Jaffery, killed in the Gulburg Society riots. The former MP was killed along with 69 others by a mob at Gulburg society in February 2002.

The widow of the Congress leader had alleged that there was a "deliberate and intentional failure" of the state government to protect the life and property of innocents during the Gujarat riots.
