Modi files nomination papers for Varanasi LS seat after roadshow

The BJP leader Narendra Modi today filed his nomination papers from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. He has filed four sets of his papers. He was waited about 15 minutes at the chamber of returning officer before filing of his papers as he was two hours late behind his schedule and Independent candidates were filing their papers in Returning officer`s chamber.

A retired justice from Allahabad High Court justice Giridhar Malviya, noted classical singer Pandit Chhannu lal Misra, and two persons one each from weaver and sailors communities namely Virbhadra and Ajay were as Modi`s proposers for his nominations.

AIR Correspondent reports that before filing of nominations Modi conducted a very impressive road show in an open truck. It was started from Kashi Vidya Peeth after garlanding to statue of Madan Mohan Malviya at BHU gate. His road show was passed through different parts of the city including Maldahiya, Teliyabagh, Andhara Pool, Mint House.

He also garlanded statues of Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel and Swami Vivekanad during his road show. Modi was accompanied by senior party leaders including Amit Shah, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and President of Party`s state unit Laxmi Shankar Vajpayee and leader of BJP`s poll ally Apana Dal leader Anupriya Patel during road show and filing of his papers. Five tier elaborate security arrangements were in place in and around at District Election Office in view of his nomination. No one was allowed to get entry into office campus without valid passes issued by the district administration. Barriers were erected to stop vehicles to move towards district Collectorate and security forces were deployed.

Today was the last day for filing of nomination. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had filed his papers yesterday after conducting an impressive road show. Congress nominee MLA Ajay Rai and Samajwadi Party candidate Kailash Chaurasia have already filed their papers. After filing his papers Modi left the town to address election rallies in different constituencies.

AIR correspondent reports that Narendra Modi has shown above 4 lakhs 54 thousand rupees as income during the financial year of 2012-13. He owns movable and immovable assets of worth of about 1 core rupees in his name as per his affidavit filed by him in English and notarized from Gujarat state with his nomination papers he has said that assets of his spouse Jashodaben is not known to him.

He has said in his affidavit that he has residential plot at Gandhinagar worth of rupees one crore rupees. About his deposits in different banks and financial institutions he has shown deposits of about 63 lakhs rupees. As per his declaration he has movable assets of worth of rupees about 66 lakhs and immovable assets of worth of rupees above 2 lakhs 47 thousand rupees.

A postgraduate from Gujarat University Ahmadabad Mr Modi has said that no criminal case is pending against him and no debt from any financial institution is due against him.
