Moderate to heavy snowfall disrupts road connectivity in Himachal

In Himachal Pradesh Road connectivity in most of the higher reaches of state were disrupted following moderate to heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours. The maximum temperatures across the state dropped by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The tourist resort of Manali has been cut off from rest of the world due to heavy snow fall . the traffic has been distrupted beyond kullu at kalath due to avalanche. Thousands of tourists who were there for winter carnival are reported to be stranded in manali now. The traffic on the National Highway 22 has been disrupted beyond Narkanda (some 65 kms from Shimla) after heavy snowfall. Pangi in Chamba district also is having heavy snowfall . till now more than six feet snow has recorded . the area has been cut of from the rest of the country since Sunday. The weather bureau in Shimla said it is snowing heavily in the upper reaches of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kullu districts, pushing the mercury down. ‘Keylong and Udaipur (both in Lahaul and Spiti) experienced more than two-and-a-half feet of snow, whereas Rohtang Pass (52 km from Manali) in Kullu district saw more four feet of snow. However, lower areas of the state, including Shimla ,Solan, Sundernagar , Bhuntar , Kalpa and Dharamsala have been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall since yesterday night. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district saw a low of minus 4.9 degrees, while it was minus 4 degrees at Kalpa in Kinnaur district and 3.6 degrees at Bhuntar in Kullu district. The Met Office predicts heavy snowfall in higher reaches and rainfall in lower areas on Tuesday also.<br/>AIR correspondent reports that though heavy snow and rain have brought cheers among the farmers and apple orchadists but thousands of tourists who were there for the winter carnival in manali are stranded now as the road has been blocked beyond kullu due to snow avalaunch and heavysnow. Many other roads including national highway 22 has been blocked due to heavy snow. Pangi in chamba district has receved more than six feet of snow where as the upper areas of lauhaul spiti , kinaur, kulu and mandi also received heavy snow fall. Lovers of winter sports are thrilled as the Himalayan tourist resort of Manali and its nearby areas in Himachal Pradesh have been receiving heavy snowfall since yesterday. Till now more than three feet of snow has been recorded . . Over 250 people from across the country are weighting for the weather to clear to participate in the National Senior Alpine Skiing Championship at Solang slopes, 13 km from the town. Lower areas of the state, including Shimla, Solan, Dharamsala, Una, Bilaspur, Sundernagar, Nahan and Mandi, have been receiving intermittent rainfall.
